Here is a short checklist for a seamless recording experience with Riverside:
1. Make sure you join from a computer with a Chrome browser that’s up-to-date.
2. Check internet stability. Ethernet cable is preferred over WiFI.
a. Recommend a minimum of at least 5 Mbps upload and download, preferably 10 Mbps+
b. Check your internet speed here: https://speed.measurementlab.net/
3. Use and connect your mic and/or headphones before joining.
a. Use an external mic, if possible.
b. Use headphones/earphones to prevent echo. If someone doesn’t have them, consider turning on
echo cancellation for that person. Echo cancellation degrades the audio quality so for the highest
quality recording we recommend wearing headphones.
4. Close all applications that don’t need to be open during the recording. This prevents CPU overload.
Important: Please close all programs that try to use your mic/camera.
5. If you can’t connect the mic/camera, make sure that you have given access to Chrome to use the
mic/camera.
6. Location:
a. Find a quiet space with a clean and presentable background, as we will be recording video.
b. Ensure that you have sufficient lighting in the location you are recording. Be sure that your face is
evenly illuminated, and avoid having any lights from behind.
Please Do Not:
• Do not use a phone or mobile device to record
• Do not use a private or incognito browser window
• Do not open other tabs or programs during the session
Joining the Session
Open the link provided to you by the Host in a Chrome web browser.
Before Joining, Choose Your Devices:
A. Choose your Mic (Audio Input device) *Grant microphone access if requested
B. Select your camera
C. Choose how to listen (Output listening device)
Join the Studio
1. Enter your name
2. Indicate if you are using headphones
3. Click “Join Studio”
Participating in the Session
Once you join the studio, you will be added to a room with the Host.
Before recording, you can ask any questions and ensure you both can hear and see one another.
When you are ready, the Host will begin the recording.
At the End of the Session
The Host will stop the recording and communicate any follow up items. The Host will then end the call and you
will be directed to a page where you can see the upload status of your recording.
IMPORTANT: Please stay on this page until your recording has fully uploaded. This can take several minutes.
After you see the message that your recording is fully uploaded (see above), you may exit that page.
